Impact Evaluation Research for Development is a consortium established to bridge the capacity gap between the academia and the actual level of monitoring and evaluation skill sets, competencies and expertise required to transform M&E graduates to M&E experts with practical skills and innovative solutions to generate quality data for better decision making which guarantees achievement of targets and objectives for projects. Impact Evaluation Research for Development (IERD) is a consortium established in Rwanda to bridge the capacity gap between the academia and the actual level of Monitoring and Evaluation skill sets, competencies and expertise required to transform M&E graduates to M&E experts.

IERD is committed to promote evidence-based research, quality data collection, and analysis, and integrate lessons learned into M&E model to optimize the quality of projects and help in informed decision for project scale up.

IERD Approaches of capacity building

  • Training workshops which are modelled around real project scenarios
  • On the job coaching and mentoring for researchers and M&E practitioners,
  • Empowering M&E interns through placement and internship programmes
  • Networking for M&E experts through workshops and seminars
  • Facilitating certification for project management experts

The scope of IERD is divided into four components, as follows:

  • Innovative Ideas for Development (2iD) Research Lab which provides training and networking opportunities  for upcoming researchers and M&E experts through workshops and seminars
    • M&E Coaching the mentorship

This is done through three flagship programmes which are

    • Evidenced-based M&E Champions (EMEC) Programme to develop young skilled M&E professionals to champion innovative monitoring and evaluation.
    • Smart Monitoring and Evaluation (SmartM&E) programme for  practitioners to enhance competence through coaching and mentorship
    • Coaching the mentor (CTM) programme for M&E Experts who aspire to employ coaching and mentoring as a strategy to build  highly effective M&E system and teams within the organization.
  • Learning by doing Impact Evaluation (LearnIE) research programme

This is a research capacity building programme for young impact evaluation researchers who aspire to inform decision making with research and evidence. We use a learning by doing approach to conduct and build capacity for  Baseline studies, Mid Term Reviews (MTRs) and Post Implementation Reviews (PIRs) for projects;  Experimental and Non-Experimental research Studies, and  Systematic Reviews for existing evidence for development intervention studies. We also offer training in data analytics and research publication

  • Project management Certification. This is for experts who wish to attain Projects In Controlled Environments (PRINCE2), and Project Management Professional (PMP) certifications
